MIT Forefront explores the frontiers of science and technology for bold new answers to urgent global problems.
Join MIT President L. Rafael Reif for an illuminating discussion with Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. Pichai came to Silicon Valley from Chennai, India, with a deep passion for technology and an open mind. He spearheaded development of Google’s Chrome browser and oversaw many of Google’s products and platforms, including Maps, Android, Gmail, and Google Apps (now Google Workspace) on his way to becoming CEO of Google in 2015 and Alphabet in 2019. As part of his ongoing pursuit to expand opportunity through technology, Pichai launched Grow with Google, which has helped train more than 88 million people around the world in digital skills, and recently announced Google’s plan to invest $1 billion in Africa over the next five years. Last year, Pichai introduced a new ambition to achieve 24/7 carbon-free energy across the company by 2030.
